Micromech.

  • 1.Design and realisation of Micro- and Nanosystems: Here, the main focus will be on novel approaches for physical sensors based on silicon on insulator technology (SOI), for example mechanical amplification and using the system integration of micromechanical sensors and actuators. Various projects about the integration of capacitive sensors into force feedback loops based on Sigma-Delta Modulators will be discussed.
  • 2.Electrostatic and magnetic levitation: Magnetic and electrostatic levitation of micro- and nano-participles can be used to realise a variety of promising and novel sensors and actuators, for example a spinning disk multi axis inertial measurement unit.
  • 3.MEMS for Nanosystems: This theme describes micro-chips that allow the direct manipulation of neutral atoms or ions trapped in magnetic or electrostatic fields. This can potentially enable an entirely new class of sensors based on for example atominterferometry.
  • 4.Microtechnology for environmental and medical applications: Currently developed sensors can monitor environmental pollution and parameters, e.g. sea water quality or the toxicity of nanoparticles. Furthermore, medical applications will be presented, such as pressure monitoring inside the human body, glucose measurements in the tear fluid and novel encapsulation techniques for theranostic permanent implants.
